Favorite Day Hiking Gear

Jacket, shoes, and glasses: Favorite day hiking gear

I’m going to share my favorite day hiking gear. Everyone has favorites. Usually, I find new favorites from reading about other peoples’ favorites. Read on to find out what my favorites are. Check out the links. Maybe you will find something new that you grow to love. These have a variety of price points. Just to clarify, I’m not sponsored by any of these companies. I’ve purchased multiple items from each of these companies, all with my own money.

My Favorite Day Hiking Gear: The List

Sunglasses

People who are into sunglasses usually have a brand or two that they really like. I almost always stick with Smith Optics. I already am very nearsighted, and I wear contacts. I’m very picky about my vision. I just love their ChromaPop lenses. According to the website, they deliver enhanced color, clarity, and definition. Honestly, I agree. These glasses really enhance your visual, outside, experience. They offer lots of different styles and colors of sunglasses. They also offer lots of sports specific goggles and glasses for outdoor activities.

Shoes

Of course, I have to include shoes in my favorite day hiking gear list. I got plantar fasciitis many years ago. The recovery was long and difficult. Birkenstocks helped me recover, However they are not good for hiking.  After researching feet and shoes, I liked the idea of barefoot shoes. Feet have lots of muscles and they can’t develop in rigid shoes. As a result, I purchased some Vivobarefoot Shoes, and I have never looked back. Once I transitioned to the barefoot shoes, which was easy since I was already wearing Birkenstocks, I have never been happier. Vivobarefoot makes a wide variety of shoes for multiple applications. Plus, if you are interested in Forest Bathing, barefoot shoes enhance the experience. And yes, I just bought these.

Jackets

What review on favorite day hiking gear would be complete without a jacket? The Atom Hoody is probably one of their iconic pieces, and rightfully so. Unfortunately, it’s gone up in price quite a bit since I started wearing them. For the weight to warmth ratio, these garments are really nice. They fit my build well, and they last a long time. I still have my original Atom vest (that I wear to my outside job). It’s been washed many times, and it still is warm and comfortable. Usually I’m not influenced by companies’ marketing etc. However, I must admit, their recent shift in advertising and casual wear products is a little off-putting. I hope that it doesn’t negatively impact the quality of the other garments. Like everything else, sometimes these jackets are on sale at other outlets.
