I am very happy that I have finally found my favorite sun protection gear. I have very sensitive skin on my face, so keeping it out of the sun is a must. The products listed below have revolutionized my ability to comfortably be outside in the sun. Read on to find out what has worked for me. You might find some of your own new favorites.
Favorite Sun Protection Gear; Hats
I never go outside without a hat. They are so important to help limit the amount of sun that hits your head and face. It took me a while to find hats that are comfortable to wear, durable, and effective. To really provide adequate coverage, the brim should be 6”. It’s not that easy to find brims that wide, however I found a great resource. Solibari makes amazing sun protection gear; especially hats. They make a variety of different hats. I also really like this one for hiking. It has a nice wide brim and a skirt in the back. I would show a photo of mine, but I left it in Colorado.
I know these hats are not cheap. If you are looking for a less expensive alternative Sun Protection Zone also makes nice, economical, durable hats. They don’t have nearly the variety, but they are effective at shielding your head and face from the sun.
Comfortable Sun Protection Face Coverings
Because I have very temperamental cheeks, I have to keep them covered in windy, cool to cold, and damp weather. I tried so many different products and nothing worked that I wanted to wear. Skida Headwear makes amazing head/face protection for winter and summer. Their gators and headbands, which I sometimes use to cover my checks, and so soft, yet SPF and warm or cool. They have fun prints in a variety of colors, and they are worth every penny. Plus, their products are made in Vermont. They wash however and always come out looking great! Check them out here. Favorite Sun Protection Gear; Sunscreen
I have a love/hate relationship with sunscreen. Many irritate my skin. After many failures, I finally found MD Solar Sciences. Again, they are not the cheapest sunscreen, however, they cater to people with finicky skin. Their mineral sunscreens never irritate my skin. My only complaint is that sunscreen can be hard to remove. They have a nice cleanser that takes it off without too much effort. Yes, there are lots of sunscreens out there, but some are just so miserable to wear. The best sunscreen is the one you will wear!
Sunglasses
I added sunglasses in my previous post. Check it out here.
In conclusion.
Sun protection should not be taken lightly. First, sun exposure can lead to skin cancer. Second, sun exposure ages the skin. When you are young, that probably doesn’t even cross your mind. Then one day you will wake up with deep wrinkles, leather-like skin, and sunspots. It sounds terrible, but it is a fact of excessive sun exposure. It just creeps up on you.
